5 Bets to Make this Week
For this week’s 5 Bets we look at the PGA Tour, NASCAR, the NBA, MLB, and the WNBA.
We are in the meat of the Spring sports schedule as the NHL and NBA Playoffs are in full swing. In addition to those sports, baseball is two months in, and the NASCAR and golf schedule are also humming along.
In this week’s 5 Bets, I take a look at an NBA game between two teams that could stretch their series to seven games. The PGA Tour is in Texas this week for the Bryon Nelson and one golfer is looking for his third consecutive victory there.
NASCAR is in South Carolina and one of the sport’s most popular drivers is looking for his second victory there. Plus two of the American League East teams in MLB are in a season series for the second time this year and we like one of them to win the opening game.
Our final prediction is on the winner of the WNBA Championship. I might be showing my bias but I like my hometown team.

Lee Makes it Three Straight at Byron Nelson
K.H. Lee has two career victories. Both have been at this week’s Byron Nelson. Lee, from South Korea, can become the first golfer since Leonard Gallett in 1929-1934 to win his first three tournaments at the same event.
TPC Craig Ranch was the easiest golf course on tour last year and in an effort to give it some teeth, it has been knocked down to a Par 71, eliminating one of the par 5s to a beefier par 4.
Lee shouldn’t have an issue with the change. Though he hasn’t won any place else, he has been playing solid golf. He finished T8 last week at Quail Hollow, and has four Top 10s so far this year.

Hamlin Makes History at Darlington
Denny Hamlin is just one of four active NASCAR drivers that have won the Goodyear 400 since it was brought back to Darlington Raceway in 2020. Hamlin is the co-favorite to win at “The Track to Tough to Tame,” along with Kyle Larson at +550.
The 42-year-old is coming off a victory last week at Kansas Speedway. He also has five other Top 10 finishes this season.
Starting position will be key. Three of the last four winners started fourth or better. Four of the last five began their day eighth or better. If Hamlin qualifies that high, he could very well capture this race for the second time in three years.

Home Team Phoenix Gets Must-Win
Denver took a 3-2 lead in the best-of-seven series and would like to close it out before they face the winner of the Golden State Warriors-LA Lakers series.
But I think with the Suns in a must-win game they will find a way to hold off Denver and force a Game 7. One piece of possible good news is that veteran Chris Paul may be returning to the Phoenix lineup. Just another reason they should triumph over the Nuggets.

Yankees Get Revenge Over Rays
The New York Yankees and the Tampa Bay Rays have already had one season series this year. The Rays won two of the three games.
Now the Yankees will host Tampa Bay in a four-game set in the Bronx starting on Thursday.
The previous three games were each decided by one run and this could again be the case over the next four games. The Yankees have won five of their last seven games. They are set to send Domingo German to the mound. He is 2-2 with a 4.35 ERA. He faced the Rays in his last start and went five innings, allowing two runs and striking out five.

Aces Repeat as WNBA Champions
The Las Vegas Aces were already bringing back most of their roster that won them the WNBA Title last year. Now they are adding two-time MVP winner Candace Parker. Adding Parker with A’ja Wilson will give the team the most potent front court in the league. The team also added a state-of-the-art practice facility and that will please the players. Happy players are motivated players and this team should repeat.
