5 Bets to Make This Week

In this week’s 5 Bets, we take a flier on Wimbledon’s No. 2, and size up the fields at the PGA Travelers, NASCAR Pocono, the NHL, and the Euro 2020 Championship.
We’ve seen plenty of surprises in sports lately, and this week’s 5 Bets is looking for more.
In NASCAR, I’ll take Denny Hamlin to cool down Kyle Larson at Saturday’s Pocono Organics CBD 325. At Wimbledon, I’m going against the favorite, Novak Djokovic, to put my money on the No. 2, Daniil Medvedev. I’ll take experience in this week’s PGA Tour event, the Travelers Championship, and the veteran Kevin Streelman.
And while nothing’s bummed me out more than the play of my Vegas Golden Knights, I’m backing Montreal to close them out on Thursday. Finally, it’s Italy over Austria on Saturday at Euro Cup 2020.
This Week’s 5 Bets:
- Daniil Medvedev +600 to win Wimbledon
- Kevin Streelman +550 Finishes Top 5 at Travelers Championship
- Denny Hamlin +700 Wins Pocono Organics CBD 325
- Montreal +125 Closes Out Vegas
- Italy Downs Austria in Euro Cup 2021
Medvedev Takes Wimbledon
Russian Daniil Medvedev is the world’s No. 2 tennis player, standing in the shadows of No. 1 Novak Djokovic. The 25-year-old doesn’t have a great record on grass, but that might change at Wimbledon.
Medvedev has failed to get past the third round in his last three appearances at the All England Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club. That record has fans wondering if Medvedev’s game can cut it at the Grand Slam event. But the man himself told the media he’s got game.
“I like to play on grass, I just need to get some confidence in my game on the surface, because we didn’t play [on it] for two years,” Medvedev said. “Two years ago, I wasn’t the same player as I am right now. … I just need to find the right balance.”
With a weaker field in the men’s division, Medvedev is a great value bet at +600.

Streelman in the Mix at Travelers Championship
Kevin Streelman loves the Travelers Championship, as evidenced by his record at this event. He was the runner-up last year at TPC Rivers Highlands, and should be in the mix again this year.
This is one of the easiest golf courses the pros will face this year, and at 6,841 yards, the 42-year-old Streelman won’t have to muscle his way around this par-70 layout.
That said, he had a strong showing at one of the toughest tournaments last week, the U.S. Open. He finished tied for 15th there, so that along with his impressive record at the Travelers, he should be near the top of the leaderboard. Streelman is +550 to finish in the Top 5 at BetMGM, and this might be a perfect spot for the PGA Tour veteran.

Hamlin Pulls Off Upset
Kyle Larson has been scorching NASCAR racetracks this season, winning at his last four and finishing second in the three races before that. It might be time for the 28-year-old to cool down a bit.
Denny Hamlin could be the one to throw cold water on Larson this Saturday at the Pocono Organics CBD 325. The two drivers are locked in a battle for the top spot in the Cup Series Championship, with Hamlin holding a slim 10-point lead despite not winning this year. That record could change; Hamlin won here last year, and could duplicate that performance this weekend.
Keep in mind, he’s finished first, second, and first in the last three races here. Hamlin is +700 to capture his first victory of the season, and with those odds, I’m jumping on the bandwagon.

Montreal Ends Vegas’ Season
It doesn’t matter what the odds are for this game, I’ll be plunking down a whole lot of money on the Montreal Canadiens to close out the Vegas Golden Knights in the semifinals of the NHL Playoffs. At +120, I will definitely back the Canadiens.
The Golden Knights came home after an overtime win in Game 4 in Montreal, and by Game 5, looked like an old, tired team. They lost 4-1, and now have to stave off elimination in Canada.
Vegas was the overwhelming favorite to win this series, but the Canadiens have given the Knights all they can handle. In Thursday’s Game 6, the Habs will end this series.

Italy Rolls On in Euro Cup 2021
These days, there’s no hotter soccer team than Italy. The Italians were dominant in the group stage, one of three teams to go undefeated. They also didn’t allow a goal in their games against Turkey, Switzerland, and Wales.
Now they’ll face Austria at London’s Wembley Stadium, and are the -185 favorite to advance out of the Round of 16. Italy’s opponent is a step up in class, though it could be argued that Wales is just as formidable, and they lost to Italy, 1-0.
Summing it up, look for Italy to overtake Austria, though it won’t be as easy as the odds suggest.
