Aces, Liberty Favorites to Win WNBA Championship

The WNBA starts its 27th season on Friday with four additional regular-season games this year. Check out our season preview.

It’s hard to believe the WNBA is starting it’s 27th season on Friday. The league has 12 teams and two conferences. This season will have a record high of 40 games per team.

The league has mentioned several cities as sites for new franchises. They include Toronto, Denver and Charlotte. Each of these cities have NBA teams and could use the collaboration of those organizations to embellish development.

Aces, Liberty Title Favorites

This year, the WNBA tips off its 2023 season with Sabrina Ionescu and the New York Liberty against Elena Delle Donne and the Washington Mystics. The  Connecticut Sun, who participated in the WNBA Finals will face the Indiana Fever, who have the number one pick of the 2023 draft, Aliyah Boston. The Los Angeles Sparks are at home on Saturday against the Phoenix Mercury.

The top teams in the WNBA are defending champions Las Vegas Aces, New York, Washington, Phoenix, and Los Angeles. The Aces signed perennial All-Star and free agent Candace Parker and immediately put themselves in a position to win back-to-back titles.

The Mercury will be aided by the return of Britney Greiner, who was detained in Russia for more than nine months. All -Time WNBA All-Time leading scorer Diana Taurasi re-signed with Phoenix and is entering her 19th season. The Mystics have their core players returning from a 22-14 season.

The Liberty made the biggest splash by signing free agent and all pro Breanna Stewart and WNBA assists leader Courtney Vandersloot. The Sparks were able to resign Nneka and Chiney Ogwumike and drafted Zia Cooke from the former 2022 Women’s National Champion, University of South Carolina.

Props, Totals, MVP Wagers all Available

Some of the appealing wagers I saw on the WNBA are the total projected wins for the regular season. The Aces win total is projected at 29.5 at a price of -110. The Aces won 26 games in 2022 and with an additional four games on the schedule, should go Over. The Liberty win total is also 29.5. The addition of three players who all possess All-Star potential will take time to mesh. New York won 16 games last year.  The Liberty will fall short of and go Under, The Indiana Fever are projected to win 10.5 games. Their core is young and will be dominated by the more experienced teams. They will go Under. The Mystics win total is set at 25.5. The price is -110. Washington won 22 games last season .They defeated the Aces three times. I expect at least two losses to Las Vegas. Washington goes Under.

The regular season MVP with the best odds are on Bet365(link). The top five are  Breanna Stewart +200, A’ja Wilson +350, Kelsey Plum +700, Sabrina Ionescu -+800 and Ella Delle Donne- +800.

The best WNBA Prop bet I saw was on Caesars Sportsbook(link). There’s a bet on WNBA Finals Matchup. The bet is any finals matchup other than the Liberty and the Aces. The price is +150. This is a value bet and a solid play! Most times the best two projected teams do not meet in the finals. Last year the Sky did not make it against the Aces. The same scenario occurred in 2021 when the Sun and Aces both failed to make the Finals after having the best conference records in the regular season.

New users can place a sports cash wager at Caesars Sportsbook of $10 or more and receive 1,000 Reward Credits, 1,000 Tier Credits AND if you lose the first real money bet you place, receive a bet up to $1,250!
