On May 1, 1999, 31-1 longshot Charismatic shocked Churchill Downs to win the Kentucky Derby under Chris Antley. After following up with a victory in the Preakness Stakes at 8-1, the colt entered the Belmont Stakes as the favorite for the Triple Crown. While leading in the final furlong, Charismatic tragically suffered a leg fracture and finished third as 29-1 Lemon Drop Kid took the win.

On This Day In Sports History

On April 30, 2023, the eighth-seeded Panthers completed a historic upset, stunning the top-seeded Bruins 4-3 in a Game 7 overtime thriller. Despite Boston setting NHL regular-season records for wins (65) and points, they surrendered a 3-1 series lead. In the finale, Florida’s Brandon Montour forced overtime with one minute left, and Carter Verhaeghe netted the winner at 8:35 of the extra period to eliminate the Bruins.​
