Three Solid QBs Top Odds Boards for NFL No. 1 Draft Pick
The NFL Draft is set to begin in two weeks and while CJ Stroud is the favorite to be selected No. 1, there are two other quarterbacks that could be the top pick.
The NFL draft is actually one of the most viewed sports events of the year, and it isn’t even a game. All 32 NFL teams make their selections each year from the college ranks to join their team in pursuit of a Super Bowl championship. The most coveted of these picks is obviously the first overall pick, where a team gets their choice of any player they think will help their team the most.
This is usually a quarterback, but sometimes can be a position player if their talent is overwhelming. No matter what, you know you’re getting a supreme talent if you have the first overall pick in the NFL Draft.

Could Young, Richardson be No. 1 pick?
The Carolina Panthers traded up to the No. 1 pick with the Chicago Bears, and immediately the odds board changed so that C.J. Stroud was the overwhelming favorite to go first. However, there have been rumors that they are looking to trade that pick again, and Bryce Young is the top QB available for many teams. I’ll take a shot that the Panthers trade again instead of laying -155 odds.
It is hard to imagine Stroud or Young not being the first two selected. Anthony Richardson, however, has been flying up draft boards. It isn’t impossible we see a surprise at the No. 1 slot. At +1000 odds, it’s worth a nibble that some team shocks us.

Mixed Results with No. 1 Pick
There have been plenty of ups and downs for No. 1 overall draft picks over the years. Some turn out to be superstars and others flamed out of the league within a few years.
Over the last 10 years, we’ve seen some great examples of this. In 2013, offensive tackle Eric Fisher was drafted first overall. Fisher has had a decent career, but not one that you would expect from a No. 1 overall pick.
In 2014, defensive end Jadeveon Clowney was selected with the No. 1 pick, and his career has taken much of the same path as Fisher’s. Quarterback Jameis Winston was the first pick in 2015 and he was a bust.
In 2016, QB Jared Goff went first. Goff has made a nice career for himself, but he has never been considered a star in the league.
In 2017, DE Myles Garrett went with the No. 1 pick> He is the first real example of the first pick becoming a true superstar in the league. QB Baker Mayfield went first overall in 2018. While he had a short run of success with the Browns, ultimately, he was a disappointment.
The jury is still out on 2019 first pick Kyler Murray, who has shown ups and downs. 2020’s Joe Burrow is the prime example of a star QB being selected first overall. Burrow has easily been the best QB selected first in the last decade. In 2021, Trevor Lawrence go first overall. It’s far too early to judge him, we’ve seen him make some real progress in his development. Last season, DE Travon Walker went first overall, and had a promising rookie year.
